九重御守 (Kokonoe Omori) is a Japanese amulet in the form of a scroll. It is said to be the most powerful amulet in Japan, and is previously only granted to men who climb Mount Omine in Nara Prefecture during the designated climbing season as a form of ascetic practice. The scroll is long and contains sacred images of Buddhist deities, mandalas, mantras and other sacred symbols. It is believed that opening the scroll in times of great difficulty can bring about divine intervention and help the bearer overcome their obstacles. The amulet charm is typically kept sealed until it is needed. When it is opened, the bearer should recite the appropriate prayers and make an offering to the deities. After the prayer, the scroll should be rolled up and resealed. It should be used with respect and reverence and must not be used for frivolous purposes.
