Daikokuten Large 43cm

The walking form of Mahakala or Daikokuten at Senryuji, Kyoto has always captivated us, the image conveys a sense of dynamic energy and readiness for action. It signifies his protective nature and eagerness to bestow wealth from his treasure bag.

We managed to ethically source Sri Lankan black ebony wood to make this batch of statues which were then coated with Japanese urushi lacquer to achieve a mysterious black matte look for this great deity, signifying his ability to absorb and transform negativity and obstacles.

We have adhered to iconography injunctions in age old manuals to bring you this statue inspired by the original at Senryuji, with his right hand in a fist mudra at the waist instead of a mallet which we often see commercially available.
